When the FortheChef team contacted Classy Llama, they had the vision to transform the kitchen shopping market. This was a brand new business venture with the ultimate goal of creating a site that would appeal to professional chefs and kitchen newcomers alike. Gary Li, the CEO, communicated the desire to have a site that would utilize as much of Magento’s native functionality as possible but emphasized the need for a customized experience for customers that would visit their site. Classy Llama immediately set out to realize their vision.
With a strong desire to build a site unlike any of their competitors, we knew a custom theme would realize this goal for ForTheChef. The Classy Llama team made a lot of very intentional customizations that not only complimented the site’s catalog but would also provide customers with the information and presentation they need in order to make the right purchase. We leveraged Magento’s native theming and features as much as possible; the result was a custom theme that was affordable, but distinctly “For the Chef”.
In addition to a custom theme, we worked with the team at ForTheChef to understand and determine the best SEO content and develop a strategy for launch. We also integrated their site with several marketplaces in order to sync product catalogs, automatically retrieve orders into Magento for processing, and then send shipment data back to the marketplace.
As this was a brand new business venture we knew there would be a tremendous amount of collaboration in determining what was essential upon launch. Embracing Agile throughout development, there was a continued focus on minimum viable product in order to build what was needed vs. what was learned throughout the project. The commitment to Agile on both ends allowed for a successful launch instead of delivering what we defined as scope at the onset of the project. The end result was a different feature set than planned but allowed ForTheChef a solid foundation to grow into as their business became more defined.
Being respectful of the project budget and delivering a foundational website was more important to the client than the timeline and we worked together to make that work. We successfully launched ForTheChef.com meeting desired goals by delivering a foundation that would allow additional iterations as their business grows. Gary, happy with the result said, “It's been an absolute joy working with your team thus far and I look forward to continued success.”
